Cut & Fill Volume Calculator — Earthwork Quantities
Free earthwork calculator: enter grid spot elevations, get cut volume, fill volume, net balance, and a visual cut/fill site plan — with swell & shrinkage factors and a CSV report.
No signup · nothing uploaded · Free — unlimited use, everything runs in your browser; no survey data is uploaded
How it works
Set up the project & units
Project info plus imperial (ft / CY) or metric (m / m³).
Define the grid
Cell size and the number of rows and columns.
Enter elevations
Type existing & proposed elevations per grid point, or import a CSV.
Calculate & review
Cut, fill, net balance, the visual plan, and expandable per-cell math.
Export
Download a CSV report with project info, assumptions, cell detail, and totals.
Enter your existing and proposed elevations on a grid and this calculator computes cut volume, fill volume, net earthwork balance, and adjusted quantities for swell, shrinkage, and compaction — using the standard four-corner (grid) method surveyors and estimators use for sitework.
You get a visual site plan colored by cut and fill, a cell-by-cell results table, every intermediate calculation shown for verification, CSV data import, and an exportable report. Everything runs in your browser — no survey data leaves your device.
Questions, answered
The grid (four-corner) method: each cell's volume is the average depth × cell area, with each corner contributing a quarter of the cell. Positive elevation difference (existing above proposed) is cut; negative is fill. Expand any cell in the results table to see the intermediate math.

In PDFDepth the elevations never leave the drawing: measure areas and depths directly on the PDF, run AI-assisted takeoff across the set, and export quantities to Excel with the sheet-by-sheet audit trail.
