Design Assumptions and Limitations
Design Assumptions and Limitations Index 630-001 provides requirements for installation of buried (i.e., underground) conduits used for Department signing, lighting, and signalization. See Specification 630 for additional requirements. For conduit installed in conjunction with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), see FDM 233 .
For embedded conduits (i.e., conduit installed within concrete barriers or traffic railings), see applicable barrier/railing Standard Plans . Use buried conduits in accordance with Index 630-001 , and other applicable Standard Plans ( e.g., Index 715-002 , Standard Aluminum Lighting ) for all conduits except for embedded conduits in bridge traffic railings or retaining wall mounted concrete barriers. See Index 630-010 and associated Standard Plans Instructions for additional information on embedded conduits.

- For each run of conduit place a call-out in the Plans which includes the pay item, # of runs, and the length of the run. The default diameter for buried conduits is 2 inches. All other diameters should be noted in the call-out. For example:
- • 630-2-11 (2 runs of 4" @100') , or
- • 630-2-11 (2 runs @ 90') .
