What kinds of designs can you make as a PDF?

By Risha, Founder & Lead Developer, PDFDepthVerified against the live workspace

Short answer

Almost anything you would build in a template-based design tool can be made directly as a PDF: pick a template in Canvas Mode (180+ built in), drop in text, images, shapes, tables, charts, and QR codes, apply your brand kit, then export, share, or add fillable fields. The difference shows up after the design — the result can be filled, signed, tracked, and converted, because it is a real document and not just an image file.

One workspace: design on the page, then fill, sign, share, and convert the same file.

Documents that earn money

  • Invoice → invoice template, swap in your brand colors, drop Smart Form fields for the client to fill, then share by link or export — the fields arrive as real fillable widgets.
  • Estimate or quote → estimate template plus a signature field, so approval happens on the same file you sent.
  • Proposal → multi-page proposal kit, AI Design to tighten the copy, "Proposal → One-page summary" in Magic Resize for the cover sheet, then a versioned smart link so you see who read it.
  • Contract → contract template with signature and date fields placed, then certificate-signed so the signed copy locks against further edits.

Marketing, in print and on social

  • Flyer → marketing template plus a QR code for the landing page; Magic Resize exports Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn sizes as PNGs.
  • Tri-fold brochure → three Letter pages designed in Canvas Mode, reflowed onto one 792×612 sheet with fold guides — or start from a print-shop brochure design.
  • Event poster → poster-size page or a print-shop poster design; export the PDF for the print run and a PNG for the listing.
  • Restaurant menu → hospitality template, one-click brand restyle, QR code that links to the live menu.
  • Social post or animated ad → square or story canvas, or a GIF template in GIF Studio — headline, colors, frame rate, and duration are all editable before the .gif downloads.

Stationery and credentials

  • Certificate → certificate template, recipient’s name as a text field, signature field below, then digital-signature sign-off.
  • Resume → resume template; edit text in place and share a tracked link — the analytics tell you when it gets opened.
  • Letterhead → letterhead template saved as your own template, so every new page starts branded.
  • Invitation → invitation template or a print-shop invitation design with finish options and ordering built in.

Print shop and photo utilities

  • Business card → card-size canvas or one of the print-shop card designs; preview matte, gloss, or soft-touch finishes with live pricing, open it in the editor to customize, then order or export.
  • Product label, sticker, t-shirt, hoodie, or mug → print-shop designs sized to the product with the print area marked; customize on the canvas and order, or keep the PDF.
  • Passport photo → upload a headshot in Image Editing Mode, align it to the 2×2-inch frame, check the compliance list (head size, eye position, background, focus), then print a nine-up Letter sheet.
  • Watermarked proof sheet → paste screenshots onto a page (Ctrl+V) and stamp a tiled text or logo watermark across each image.

What a design file can’t do

A design exported from a graphics tool is usually a PNG or a flattened PDF — pretty, but inert. Everything above ends as a working document instead: the invoice carries fields a client can type into, the certificate takes a real signature, the proposal reports who read it and for how long, and any of them convert to Word, PowerPoint, or Excel when the recipient needs an editable copy.

And because the whole editor runs free in the browser with files staying on your device unless you share them, the workflow is: open, design, and send — with no account gate and no export-then-reimport detour through a second tool.

Doing it in PDFDepth

Right panel → Canvas Mode → Templates. Search the category that matches the job, apply it (your brand kit fills the placeholders), customize on the page, then use Smart Forms for fields, Digital Signature for signing, and Collaborate Mode for the tracked share link.

  • The PDF-only extras: fillable fields, signatures, tracked links, version history, and Office conversion.
  • Social and print outputs come from Magic Resize, GIF Studio, and the print shop — no second app needed.
  • Free in the browser; files stay on your device unless you share them.
