Design Assumptions and Limitations The drawings shown in this Index include details of the different types of joints. The Index also includes typical joint layout patterns; however, the actual layout for joints is project-specific and must be detailed in the plans. It should be noted that bridge approach slabs that have an Asphalt Base must use 4 expansion joints.
Bridge approach slabs with a Special Select Soil Base must use the expansion joints in Index 370-001 . Concrete pavement joints next to concrete curb must meet the requirements in Index 520-001 and Section 520 of the specifications.
